Application Description:
Robot mounted sensor system uses a minimum of 3 features to establish the position and orientation of the rack so that sheet metal or other parts can be properly located in the appropriate slots or, alternatively, extracted from the rack without damage. Provides full frame correction to within 1 mm or better in most applications. Generates a full 6-degree of freedom (position and orientation) offset for position and tool orientation correction.

Standard configuration: single camera robot mounted. Fixed camera solutions are also supported for high cycle time applications.

Specifications:

Registration time     < 0.25 seconds per feature
Sensor Imaging volume     200 mm x 200 mm x 100 mm per smart camera typical
Accuracy     < 1.0 mm. typical
Auto calibration     < 3 minutes
Calibration tool     Mounted led light included
Calibration jigs, theodolites     None

All solid-state components and no disk storage ensures high reliability. Components are standard off-the-shelf items.

Robots supported:

  • ABB
  • Fanuc
  • Kuka

Others available within 6 weeks upon receipt of communication specification for a one-time engineering fee.

Standard Interfaces:

  • Ethernet/IP
  • DeviceNet
  • ABB RobCom
  • Socket based

Smart cameras supported:

  • DVT
  • Cognex
  • High resolution OEM
  • Matrox Iris smart camera

Support for others on a case-by-case basis.

Optional Fail Safe Configuration
The Fail Safe option takes advantage of the system’s networked architecture, using online spares to enable the system to tolerate individual failed components while continuing to operate. The use of online spares also allows the system to self-recalibrate during runtime. This configuration virtually eliminates unscheduled downtown due to vision component failure.
