3D Guidance System Overview

2. System Summary
The VSII VisionHub allows any number of
networked vision sensors (up to 100) to find the 3D position and orientation of a part.
The six-axis offset of the part is determined and sent to any number of robots (up to 50).
All components communicate via Ethernet. Control and monitoring of the system is via the
robot teach pendent or cell controller. VisionHub supports fully failsafe configurations
that allow the loss of any sensor or component without performance degradation. The core
of VisionHub is a versatile 3D modeling and computational software engine that computes
the 3D position and orientation of a part. VisionHub compares features such as 3D points
or lines, derived from an object within its calibrated workspace, to a stored model of the
object, and computes a six-axis frame shift that is sent to the robot. All of
VisionHubs components are connected via Ethernet. VisionHub has no dedicated PC
monitor, keyboard, or mouse and when integrated within a workcell it operates as a server
that responds to client requests made by a robot or cell controller. Factory personnel can
monitor or program VisionHubs activity via an easy to use web page interface that
can be called up by any commonly used web browser. Some of VisionHubs highlights
include:
- Robot-mounted or fixed-position smart camera sensors
- Supports robots from most major manufacturers
- Simple robot-based calibration
- Failsafe configuration possible
- Supports multiple 3D sensing methods
- Number of 3D sensors required scales with application
- Easy hardware/software integration into work-cell
The VisionHub can be a solution for all
fixtureless assembly operations. Fixtureless assembly processes allow multiple models to
run on a given line, eliminate hard tooling to locate parts and can reduce new product
introduction efforts by months.
