5. The Vision Hub Controller
The factory-hardened controller is at the
center of the VisionHub system (see Block Diagram below). The controller is an embedded
computer with multiple Ethernet connections, RAM, and flash memory. All communication
between robots, robot controllers, and/or web page browsers and the VisionHub goes through
the controller. The controller is not just a communication device, it also performs
important computation and storage functions:
- All 3D modeling and six-axis offset computations are performed on the hub.
- Maintains storage of calibration data, application data, and system configuration
- Controls and configures smart camera sensors connected to the system
- Retrieves geometric primitive 2D data collected by smart sensors and computes 3D vectors
All critical data on the controller can be easily backed-up to the robot controller and
restored via commands from the teach pendant. Any system component could be replaced and
the system parameters re-initialized from the teach pendant. All configuration parameters
are stored in flash memory and backed up to the robot/cell controller automatically.
